Bona Vista Physiotherapy has been providing an excellent service to Mackay and surrounding areas since the 1980's. Previously owned by Cathryn Bishop, the practice has been owned and operated by David Straker since 2000, In 2020, the time for change had arrived. Seeing an opportunity to relocate to Victoria Point on the Redlands Coast, Bona Vista Physiotherapy sadly closed the chapter in Mackay and made the journey south. March 2020, saw Bona Vista Physiotherapy open in Victoria Point Shores on Colburn Avenue Victoria Point.
Our aim is to accurately assess and treat our clients in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. To achieve the best outcome for our patients a quality holistic assessment and accurate diagnosis is the basis for determining the appropriate treatment and management of your injury. David takes into consideration your lifestyle, recreational activities and expectations throughout your consultation to determine the best course to help you recover. Upon completion of your examination a full explanation of your problem and a treatment plan will be discussed with you.
David has a strong interest in musculo-skeletal injuries and has extensive experience with post operative knee reconstruction and shoulder repairs. He maintains good communication with the medical community including local and city Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Having completed a Masters in Physiotherapy Manipulative Therapy (University of South Australia) in 1999, he continues to specialize in "hands on" manual therapy for treatment to muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments and nerves.
Injury prevention is also an important part of your treatment. Exercise rehabilitation and preventative care to reduce the risk of recurrence is essential. David can give you the right advice and treatment to get you back to what you love.

Due to an acute illness post TC Debbie, David has been hospitalised for IV antibiotic therapy.
TC Debbie certainly left her mark, leaving us with no power and damage to carpets in the treatment area. The clinic will re-open again as soon as possible.

David completed his training in Adelaide in 1989. Combining a love of travel and work, took him to variety of workplaces around Australia, working in hospitals in the Northern Territory, Queensland and Tasmania. Five years living in England, working in NHS outpatient departments, he gained valuable experience as a young physio, learning from experienced mentors.
1999 found him returning to the University of South Australia, working towards his Masters in Manipulative Therapy, consolidating clinical reasoning with knowledge to enhance his skills as a hands on physiotherapist.
Whilst working in New South Wales the following year, he heard on the grapevine about Bona Vista Physiotherapy Mackay. Enticed by the views offered at the iconic Eimeo Hotel, the family moved in December 2000. Opening his business in January 2001
David has a strong sporting background playing rep football (soccer) into his twenties, joining the local AFL team in Tennant Creek, and taking to the field in Rugby Union for local Bournemouth Team the Portcastrians.
Although knee injury has prevented a return to team sports he has supported regional sporting teams Stingers Rugby Union and Whitsunday Miners as well as the Kuttabul Rugby Union,
Personal fitness and well-being remains important balancing work and family with gym and cycling and bush-walking.
